Route 66 RV Rental
RV USA Rental
Running from Chicago to Los Angeles the infamous 2448 mile Route 66 is one of the most iconic road trips that must be experienced as part of your USA RV rental.
This is the way to see some of the old America - old fashioned diners, abandoned road side gas stations and iconic motels watch out for the tumbleweed blowing down the road.
First opened in 1926, the road is no longer a recognised highway following it’s decommissioning in the 1980’s. Today it is interwoven with new by-passes and highway intersections. The road was made famous in the sixties, with versions of the song “(Get your kicks on) Route 66” by Chuck Berry and the Rolling Stones, and latterly by John Mayer and Glen Frey.
Although the road is no longer the main highway from Chicago to Los Angeles, it is still a worthwhile adventure to travel down the original route with you rental RV. Travellers are advised to prepare for some of the more exposed parts of the journey, especially the desert areas where gas stations can be 100 miles apart. Take plenty of food and water, and most of all take it easy!

The beauty of renting an RV or a motorhome in the USA is that with such a large mass of land, if you’ve got the time then slow down and take in all the wonders. Although we have mentioned the key milestones on Route 66, slow down and experience some of the following landmarks.
The meteor crater, between Flasgstaff and Winslow, Arizona; the Jefferson Natinal Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri; St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, the Petrified Forest National Park, east of Holbrook, Arizona; the Wigwam Motel in San Bernardino and the Amboy Crater, a volcano in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County and the re-located London Bridge, located at Lake Havasu, Arizona
These are just a few of the sites you can see.
Oh and watch out for ghosts as highlighted in Richard Southall’s book, “Haunted Route 66” – a nice read when camping overnight in the middle of the desert!
